What is ACANA Heritage Light & Fit dog food?
Overweight dogs benefit from a diet rich in protein to promote lean muscle mass for optimum health.
That’s why ACANA Light & Fit is brimming with meat, including free-run chicken, cage-free eggs, and wild-caught flounder that are delivered to the ACANA kitchen fresh or raw, so they’re loaded with goodness and taste.
To promote healthy blood-sugar levels, ACANA is free of grains and gluten, and instead features farm-fresh vegetables and fruit, such as whole pumpkin and squash.
Prepared in ACANA’s award-winning kitchen from Canada’s best and freshest ingredients, Biologically Appropriate ACANA keeps your dog healthy, happy, and strong.
Suitable for overweight dogs and those prone to weight gain.
What does Biologically Appropriate mean?
The grey wolf is the ancestor of all domestic dogs. While years of breeding have produced hundreds of ‘different looking’ wolves, the internal workings of dogs remain unchanged. The eating anatomy of modern dogs is the same as their wild cousins, so it's no surprise that their food requirements remain consistent.
The Biologically Appropriate concept is simple: Mirror the quantity, Freshness, and variety of meat that nature evolved dogs to eat.
To determine if a dog’s food is biologically appropriate, simply answer three meat questions:
How much meat?
ACANA Light & Fit is loaded with 65% meat – up to twice as much as most pet specialty dog foods.
How much fresh meat?
1/3 of the meat in ACANA is fresh, supplying essential nutrients in their most nourishing form. The remaining 2/3 are dried or oils to provide a strong and natural source of protein.
How many meats?
ACANA dog foods feature fresh meats in Wholeprey ratios that include meat, organs, and cartilage or bone to supply nutrients naturally and completely.
Free-Run Chicken – meat, liver, heart, kidney, and cartilage or bone, from prairie farms.
Wild-Caught Flounder – whole and fresh from North Vancouver Island.
What does Wholeprey mean?
In nature there are no synthetic supplements, and dogs and wolves derive their nutritional needs by consuming prey animals; muscle meat provides protein; liver, kidney, and tripe supply vitamins and minerals; and cartilage and bone deliver calcium and phosphorus.
ACANA uses Wholeprey food to mirror the natural diet, incorporating meat, organs, and cartilage or bone in ratios that deliver nutrients naturally and completely without the need for long lists of synthetic ingredients.
