What is SPECIFIC Feline Everyday Neutered Young dry food?

SPECIFIC Neutered Young is a complete and balanced dry food for neutered kittens. It contains high levels of protein, vitamins and minerals essential for growing kittens, and contains Omega-3 from fish oils to support brain and eye development. The increased fibre helps to prevent hairball issues.

SPECIFIC Neutered Young allows for the lower metabolic rate of neutered kittens and helps maintain an ideal bodyweight, due to the reduced calorie levels. The recipe is made with highly digestible ingredients and contains high levels of Omega-3 from fish to support brain and eye development.

This diet helps to produce slightly acidic urine due to the low magnesium and phosphorus levels - this helps to discourage the formation of struvite stones and supports a healthy urinary tract.

SPECIFIC also add Yucca into their dry foods to help minimise stool odour.

Who is this food suitable for?

This food is suitable for neutered kittens up to around 12 months. Depending on the breed, cats become adults around 8-12 months – from that age, an adult diet is more suitable.

Why does neutering make a difference to the food given to kittens?

Neutered kittens are still growing so they still need plenty of nutrients, however, neutering significantly reduces the energy requirements as their metabolic rate is reduced by up to 30% - this means that they need fewer calories in their diet.

Neutering may also slightly increase the risk of bladder stones forming.

 Feeding Guide

The daily requirement may vary depending on factors such as breed, environment, season and activity level. It is recommended that you monitor your cat and adjust the feeding amount to fit their individual needs.

How do I know if my cat is the right weight?

Body Condition Score

Steps to ideal bodyweight

Weight check:  Get your cat's body condition checked and weighed.

Planning:  Work with your vet to decide what is the target weight. Choose a suitable food for your cat's needs, and then calculate the daily feeding amount.

Implement the feeding:  It’s important that you measure out the food so, if you need to you can easily and accurately adjust it.

Regularly weigh your cat:  A simple way to do this is weigh yourself, then weigh yourself while holding your cat then subtract the two numbers.

Be patient – It’s not going to happen overnight but if you stick with it your cat will reach their target weight, and it will all be worth it with a happier healthy cat.

Maintain weight:  Once you have reached target weight you need to make sure they stay there by choosing a suitable food for your cat's needs.

Remember: If your cat is on a diet, be careful not to spoil the good work with treats (especially table scraps), and make sure everyone knows what you are doing!
