ADVANTIX contains Imidacloprid and Permethrin.

For the treatment and prevention of flea (Ctenocephalides canis, Ctenocephalides felis) infestation.

Fleas on dogs are killed within one day following treatment. One treatment prevents further flea infestation for four weeks. The product can be used as part of a treatment strategy for flea allergy dermatitis (FAD).

For the treatment of biting lice (Trichodectes canis).

The product has persistent acaricidal and repellent efficacy against tick infestations (Rhipicephalus sanguineus and Ixodes ricinus for four weeks, and Dermacentor reticulatus for three weeks).

Ticks already on the dog may not be killed within two days after treatment and may remain attached and visible. Therefore the removal of ticks already on the dog at the time of treatment is recommended, in order to prevent them from attaching and having a blood meal.

One treatment provides repellent (anti-feeding) activity against sand flies (Phlebotomus papatasi for two weeks and Phlebotomus perniciosus for three weeks), against mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti for two weeks and Culex pipiens for four weeks) and against stable flies (Stomoxys calcitrans) for four weeks.

Imidacloprid is an ectoparasiticide belonging to the chloronicotinyl group of compounds. Chemically, it can be classified as a chloronicotinyl nitroguanidine. Imidacloprid is effective against adult fleas and larval flea stages. In addition to the adulticide flea efficacy of imidacloprid, a larvicidal flea efficacy in the surroundings of the treated pet has been demonstrated. Larval stages in the dog's immediate surroundings are killed following contact with a treated animal. It has a high affinity for the nicotinergic acetylcholine receptors in the post-synaptic region of the central nervous system (CNS) in insects. The ensuing inhibition of cholinergic transmission in insects results in paralysis and death of the parasite.

Permethrin belongs to the type I class of pyrethroid acaricides and insecticides and also acts as repellent. Pyrethroids affect the voltage-gated sodium channels in vertebrates and non-vertebrates. Pyrethroids are so called “open channel blockers” affecting the sodium channel by slowing both the activation and the inactivation properties thus leading to hyperexcitability and death of the parasite. In the combination of both substances, it has been shown imidacloprid functions as the activator of arthropod ganglia and therefore increases the efficacy of permethrin. The product provides repellent (anti-feeding) activity against ticks, sand flies and mosquitoes, preventing the repelled parasites from taking a blood meal and thus reducing the risk of disease transmission (e.g. borreliosis, rickettsiosis, ehrlichiosis, leishmaniasis). However, there may be an attachment of single ticks or bites by single sand flies or mosquitoes. For this reason, a transmission of infectious diseases by these parasites cannot be completely excluded if conditions are unfavourable.

The product provides repellent (anti-feeding) activity against stable flies thereby assisting in the prevention of fly-bite dermatitis.The product is indicated for dermal administration. Following topical application in dogs, the solution rapidly distributes over the body surface of the animal. Both active substances remain detectable on the skin and hair of the treated animal for 4 weeks. Acute dermal studies in the rat and target animal, overdose and serum kinetic studies have established that systemic absorption of both active substances after application on intact skin is low, transient and not relevant for the clinical efficacy.

Mises en garde particulières à chaque espèce cible:

La fixation d’une tique ou la piqûre d’un moustique ou d’un phlébotome reste possible. Par conséquent, la transmission de maladies infectieuses par ces parasites ne peut être totalement exclue si les conditions sont défavorables.
Le médicament possède une activité répulsive (anti-gorgement) contre les tiques, les phlébotomes et les moustiques ; cela évite la prise de repas sanguin par les parasites repoussés et réduit le risque de transmission de maladies vectorielles canines (telles que la borréliose, la rickettsiose, l’ehrlichiose et la leishmaniose).

Précautions particulières d'emploi chez les animaux:

Éviter le contact de la solution avec les yeux ou la bouche des chiens traités.
Veiller à administrer le produit correctement tel que décrit dans la rubrique « Posologie et voie d’administration ». Veiller notamment à empêcher toute ingestion du produit par léchage du site d’application par les animaux traités ou des animaux en contact avec ces derniers.

Ne pas utiliser chez les chats.
Ce médicament est extrêmement dangereux chez les chats et peut être létal, étant donné la physiologie particulière des chats et leur incapacité à métaboliser certains composés comme la perméthrine. Pour éviter que les chats ne soient exposés accidentellement au produit, tenir les chiens traités à l’écart des chats jusqu’à ce que le site d’application soit complètement sec. Il est important que les chats ne puissent lécher le site d’application d’un chien récemment traité. Si cela se produit, contactez immédiatement votre vétérinaire.

Consultez votre vétérinaire avant d’utiliser ce produit sur des chiens malades et affaiblis.
Ne pas laisser les chiens entrer en contact avec l’environnement aquatique pendant au moins 48 heures après l’application du produit, compte tenu que celui-ci peut être dangereux pour les organismes aquatiques.

Précautions particulières à prendre par la personne qui administre le médicament vétérinaire aux animaux:

Eviter tout contact du produit avec la peau, les yeux et la bouche.
Ne pas manger, boire ou fumer pendant l’application.
Bien se laver les mains après l’application.
En cas de contact accidentel avec la peau, laver immédiatement avec de l’eau et du savon.
Les personnes présentant une sensibilité cutanée connue peuvent être particulièrement sensibles à ce produit.
Les symptômes prédominants, bien que extrêmement rares, pouvant être observés sont des irritations sensorielles transitoires de la peau comme un picotement, une sensation de brûlure ou un engourdissement.
En cas de contact accidentel du produit avec les yeux, rincer abondamment les yeux à l’eau. Si une irritation de la peau ou des yeux persiste, ou en cas d’ingestion accidentelle du produit, consulter un médecin et montrer à ce dernier la notice du produit.

Ne pas laisser les enfants jouer avec les animaux traités jusqu’à ce que le site d’application soit sec. Cela pourra être assuré en traitant par exemple les animaux en soirée. Dans ce cas, ne pas laisser les chiens récemment traités dormir avec leurs propriétaires, en particulier si ce sont des enfants.

Autres précautions:

Le solvant contenu dans le médicament peut tacher certains matériaux, y compris le cuir, les tissus, les plastiques et les surfaces vernies. Laisser sécher le site d’application avant de permettre le contact avec de tels matériaux.

Effets indésirables (fréquence et gravité):

En de très rares occasions, certains chiens traités pourront présenter une sensibilité cutanée passagère (telle que démangeaisons, grattements, frottement, perte de poils et rougeur au site d’application) ou une léthargie. Ces effets se résolvent généralement spontanément.
Dans de très rares cas, certains chiens peuvent montrer des changements de comportement (agitation, nervosité, gémissement ou roulement sur le sol), des symptômes gastro-intestinaux (vomissement, diarrhée, hypersalivation, diminution d’appétit) et des signes neurologiques tels que des mouvements instables et des contractions musculaires en cas de sensibilité à la perméthrine. Ces signes sont transitoires et se résolvent spontanément.
Une intoxication après ingestion accidentelle chez le chien est improbable, mais peut survenir dans de rares cas. Lors d'un tel évènement, des signes neurologiques tels que des tremblements et une léthargie peuvent survenir. Un traitement symptomatique doit être instauré. II n'y a pas d'antidote spécifique connu.

Utilisation en cas de gravidité et de lactation :

La spécialité peut être utilisée pendant la gestation et la lactation.
